The Proper Use of Although
I was about to create a topic "Although vs Albeit" ! But then it seemed better to discuss and explain each one separately ! By the way, this is a COPIED topic from some website !
Here is some information on the proper use of the word although in a sentence. Please note it.
The Two Correct Ways
1. In the MIDDLE of a sentence:
We decided not to wear our jackets when we went for a walk, although the weather was
rather chilly.
2. At the BEGINNING of a sentence:
Although the weather was rather chilly, we decided not to wear our jackets when we went
for a walk.
The Wrong Way
Do NOT use Although as the first word of a sentence with a comma after it and a period after the although part. This will make a fragment sentence, which is a serious mistake.
We decided not to wear our jackets when we went for a walk. Although, it was rather
chilly outside.
Although vs. However
A better way to write the above sentence would be to use the word However instead of Although.
We decided not to wear our jackets when we went for a walk. However, it was rather chilly outside.
In other words, the word although is NOT the same as however. The word However is able to stand at the beginning of its own sentence and should be followed by a comma. The word although CANNOT do that.
